Eposdigi.com – Learning is a process that aids in our growth and development. The learning system is the same in every school, but it doesn’t have to be due to recent changes in both the environment and learning processes.
The learning process has evolved or been updated as a result of societal evolution, changing economic, and social needs, and also globalization.
Active learning and passive learning are the two types of learning. Active learning gradually replaces passive learning for some reason, and this is obvious. In some schools, passive learning is still the primary type that is implied in traditional classes.
But some schools combine both learning processes. This makes teachers are thus challenged to understand the benefits and drawbacks of each student and to assist students with their learning styles.

Active learning is a student-centered approach to learning in which students actively participate in classes and discussions to help them develop their understanding of the topic. Making small group discussions, debates, role-playing, and class presentations also promote active learning.
This is the advantage in which students participate more in information analysis, and synthesis and also develop their critical thinking skills. This learning process also engages students more and provides real-world applications for the information.
Because their attention span is longer as a result of this learning process, students are less likely to lose focus or become bored. When compared to passive learning, active learning transmits significantly less information.
Active learning can also be more difficult for teachers who have less control over the learning process and a less adaptable lesson plan.

According to Meyers and Jones in @Key Differences (The second source), active learning is based on two basic assumptions. By nature, learning is an active endeavor and different people learn in different ways.
Active learning involves some activities, there are question-answer, excursion, brainstorming, strip story, dramatization, assignments, independent study, and problem-solving.
Active learning differs greatly from passive learning. Because passive learning is linked to more traditional methods of instruction, such as teachers and reading to learn.
As a result, the students maintain a relaxed demeanor while learning and being instructed by their teacher, and they receive no feedback from the teacher. An instructor can communicate a large amount of information to students at once during the learning process. Passive learning, on the other hand, improves writing, organizational, and listening skills.
This is why students make no conscious efforts to gain knowledge and are instead fed by teachers.

In contrast to active learning, passive learning causes students to become easily bored and tired due to the minimal involvement of the brain during lessons and the limits of thinking students, leaving them unengaged in the topic.
This learning process simulates some activities, such as assigned reading, watching videos, and listening to teachers, which are all ways for students to learn passively.
As a result, there are only a few opportunities to assess the student’s comprehension and understanding. In addition, passive learning involves learning through lectures/teachers/instructors, tutorials, seminars, programmed instructions, PowerPoint presentations, illustrations, and textbooks.
Meanwhile, the most difference between both active and passive learning is some students will respond better to one or the other type of learning.
Active learning still needs to learn some foundational information before being able to work with the material at a higher level. Passive learners, need to be able to apply what they have learned.

Meanwhile, in active learning, students seek the link and then draw connections between different units to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
